Modelling Design Partners announces new data analytics model for American Football

MDP American Football Data AnalyticsModelling Design Partners, based in Edinburgh, has announced plans to build a predictive American Football model using the latest data analytics and data fusion techniques. The new model could be of particular interest to fans of the so-called ‘Fantasy Football’ game, which is popular with American Football fans.

A history of ‘Fantasy Football’
Early versions of what has become known as ‘Fantasy Football’ have been around since the early 1960’s. It became more popular in the 1980’s and 1990’s before booming with the growth of the internet over the last 10 years. Industry experts expect this Fantasy Football Season to generate profits in excess of $1Bn (US) through television deals, advertisements, draft guides, game fees and endorsements.

MDP has previously built models based on historical statistics for international Rugby Union championships, and the plans for a new model for American Football will use MDP’s expertise in modelling to provide valuable player insights through cutting-edge analysis of publicly available data. The challenge is now set to see whether the old hands of American Football or the latest mathematical data algorithms will win the day.
